Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a former deputy on a count of aggravated assault with a firearm after he pointed a handgun at customers in a bar late last month, said Lt. Col. Bobby Webre.

Mike Renaud, 37, of Geismar, is accused of getting into an argument Feb. 26 with employees of the Southpaws Daiquiri Shop on La. 73 in Geismar, then pulling out a handgun and pointing it at several customers before leaving, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Renaud, 13228 Fieldstone Drive, Geismar, also was booked Friday on a count of possession of a firearm on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet, Webre said in a news release.

Renaud was released on $15,000 bail Friday, Webre said.

Allison Hudson, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, confirmed Monday that Renaud is a former deputy.
