The Gonzales Police Department said Monday that detectives are trying to identify the man who stole a money clip containing $1,200 after its owner accidentally left it on the counter of a convenience store.

In a security camera video of the Dec. 2 incident, the man is seen picking up the money clip off the counter at Popingo’s, 3839 S. Burnside Ave., and pocketing it just seconds after the owner of the clip walked away, according to a police news release.

The man then left the convenience store as a passenger in a car believed to be a 2004-2008 Acura TSX. The driver isn’t suspected of being involved in the theft, police said.
