The Ascension Parish 4-H Junior Leader Club’s fall festival starts at noon Saturday at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.
The festival offers a petting zoo, hayrides, games, candy, a pumpkin patch, a pumpkin-decorating contest and crafts.
Youths can bring decorated pumpkins to be judged.
The festival cost is $6 per youth. Students can bring a canned food item for a $1 admission discount.

The Ascension Community Theatre is holding auditions Saturday and Sunday for its children’s Christmas program, “A Christmas Peter Pan.”
Auditions are 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 pm. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The show is set for Dec. 15-18.

Chef John Folse is set to speak Tuesday at the 25th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Gonzales.
Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. and the program starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center on Irma Boulevard.

Driving lessons offered
It’s not too late to register for the free, four-hour driving safety courses offered to veterans and active duty military personnel.
The classes, sponsored by the AARP and Ascension Council on Aging, will be held Nov. 17 at the Donaldsonville Senior Center and Nov. 21 at the Gonzales Senior Center. To register, call (225) 257-4562.
ACT practice test
Registration is under way for the Ascension Parish Library’s free practice ACT test set for Nov. 19 in Gonzales.
The four-hour test, brought to the library by the Princeton Review of Baton Rouge, starts at 9 a.m.
Registration ends Nov. 16.

Veterans Day Mass
Ascension Catholic Elementary School’s annual Veterans Day Mass is scheduled for 8:20 a.m. Nov. 11 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville.
The public is invited to attend the Mass and program, which will be held in the Ascension Catholic High School gym following the Mass.
Veterans and servicemen and women will be honored.
Representatives of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will take part in the program.

Youths vote for books
Voting has begun in the State Library of Louisiana’s annual Young Readers’ Choice Awards program.
Students in third through 12th grades can vote for their favorite books at any branch of the Ascension Parish Library. Voting ends Jan. 21.
