The Ascension Parish Recycling Road Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Prairieville Walmart store, parish officials said.
Collection numbers from last month’s Aug. 5 event show about 8,020 pounds, or 4 tons, of recyclables were dropped off, said Terance Irvin, parish environmental director.
Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, phone books, paperback books, mail, colored paper, envelopes, milk and juice cartons, cardboard, aluminum, tin or bimetal cans and metal lids will be accepted.
No. 1 or No. 7 plastic containers also can be brought to the recycle event.

Candidate qualifying set
Candidates for several races set for Oct. 22 in Ascension Parish can qualify Tuesday through Thursday at the Ascension Parish Clerk of Court offices in Donaldsonville and Gonzales, Clerk of Court Kermit Hart Bourque said.
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at 815 E. Worthey St., Gonzales, or 300 Houmas St., Donaldsonville.
Elections will be held to elect an assessor, clerk of court, coroner, Sorrento Town Council member, Parish Council seats for District 1-11, parish president and sheriff. Qualifying is also set for state representatives in House districts 58, 59, 81 and 88; and Senate districts 2 and 18.
The general election is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Labor Day holiday
All Ascension Parish government offices will be closed Monday in observance of the Labor Day Holiday, according to a news release from Ascension Parish government.
Offices for the cities of Gonzales and Donaldsonville and the town of Sorrento will also be closed on Monday.
They will reopen for normal hours on Tuesday.
9/11 to be discussed
David Sobek, an associate professor in LSU’s department of political science, is set to talk about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S. during a Sept. 8 program at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville.
During the 6:30 p.m. program, Sobek is set to talk about the ramifications of the attacks and how they shaped America as we know it today.

First lady to speak
Louisiana first lady Supriya Jindal will be the keynote speaker at a Region 6 Republican Women luncheon hosted by Ascension Republican Women on Sept. 15.
The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a social and the meeting starts at noon at Elegant Affairs, 14190 Airline Highway, Gonzales.
The cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The luncheon is open to the public and guests are welcome.

Tea Party plans meeting
The Ascension Parish Tea Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ascension Parish Library, 708 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales.
