DONALDSONVILLE — The Ascension Parish School Board has collected $36.8 million in property tax revenue, which is down 6 percent from last year’s tax collections, Diane Allison reported to the Finance Committee.
Allison, business services director, credited much of that drop to the loss of a barge company that relocated to Pointe Coupee Parish, along with $20 million in inventory.
The overall financial picture remains about the same, Allison said, with total revenues projected at $171.5 million, and total expenditures at $174.6 million, leaving a shortfall in excess of $3 million.
Cost-cutting measures during the fiscal year reduced the deficit from an initial projection of $18 million, Allison said.
Other business during Tuesday’s board meeting included:
REAPPORTIONMENT: The board heard a presentation from John Diez, president of Magellan Strategies, the company handling reapportionment for Ascension Parish government.
The School Board is considering hiring the company to help in redrawing district lines.
