GALVEZ — The students and faculty of Galvez Middle School are safe after the Ascension Parish public school was put on lock-down for nearly 40 minutes early Thursday afternoon, parish sheriff’s deputies said.
Administrators reported hearing what they thought were gunshots near the school, deputies said in a news release.
The school was put on lock-down at 12:18 p.m.
Deputies arrived seven minutes later but found no indication of danger, saying the gunshots could have been from hunters near the school.
The lock-down was lifted and school activities resumed at 12:56 p.m., deputies said.
The school, which has about 660 sixth- to eight-grade students, is located on the northeast corner of La. 932 and Joe Sevario Road and La. 933.
