A 24-year-old woman died near Belle Rose on Friday night when her SUV struck an oncoming sedan as she was passing traffic on a two-lane highway, according to State Police.

Christina Paul, of Belle Rose, was headed west on La. 70 just before 11:45 p.m., when she tried to pass two vehicles in the westbound lane, according to State Police. She was unable to pass safely and struck an oncoming sedan, authorities said.

Paul was wearing a seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the sedan, Brittany Williams, 22, and passenger Ebony Harris, 26, both of Napoleonville, were hospitalized with moderate injuries. Another passenger, Lakita Robertson, 23, was taken to Our Lady of the Lake hospital with critical injuries.

It is unclear whether either driver was intoxicated, and toxicology tests are pending, authorities said.
