LABADIEVILLE — Assumption Parish sheriff’s detectives captured a woman Thursday wanted as a six-year fugitive on felony counts in California.
Deputies arrested Demple A. Hawkins, 46, 2968 La. 1, Apt. 6, Labadieville, after tracking her through a Louisiana Purchase Card, according to a news release from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.
San Bernardino County, Calif., deputies wanted Hawkins on a warrant for a parole violation for leaving California and an assault with a deadly weapon count, the Assumption Sheriff’s Office reported.
California deputies said she stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the back on March 13, 2005, and fled the state.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack said San Bernardino detectives told Assumption detectives Wednesday that Hawkins might be in Labadieville.
He said Assumption detectives were able to find her at her home in the Parker apartments after checking her re-application in June for a Louisiana Purchase Card for low-income food assistance.
Hawkins was booked at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
