ST. AMANT - A bridge on Harry Savoy Road will be closed for an estimated three weeks while work crews replace wooden pilings supporting the structure, a parish spokesman said Wednesday.

The bridge spanning White Cypress Canal southwest of Butch Gore Park was closed on Wednesday so Chambers Construction Co. could begin the project, Lester Kenyon, public information officer for the Ascension Parish government, said in a news release.

Kenyon said the repairs, expected to cost $65,770, were ordered after a state Department of Transportation and Development inspection three weeks ago revealed the pilings need to be replaced.

Kenyon said the inspection was called for by parish Department of Public Works Director Ronnie Fairchild.

Motorists can use La. 431 as an alternative route, Kenyon said.
