KENTWOOD — Reported sightings of an accused rapist brought a renewed search for the man, Kaunda Lopaz Magee, late Tuesday afternoon, officials with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

“We’ve had some sightings,” Dawn Panepinto of the Sheriff’s Office said shortly after 5 p.m. “We are out with air and ground support.”

The search is in the area of La. 1054 and La. 1055 just northeast of the wooded area where the original search occurred last week, the spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office said.

The search began after Magee fled from Washington Parish sheriff’s deputies around 4 p.m. Thursday and disappeared into a wooded area near Kentwood.

Friday a number of law enforcement agencies continued to search for Magee, 36, who is wanted on warrants for aggravated rape, kidnapping, criminal damage to property and four counts of attempted murder of a police officer, Panepinto said.
