The Fourth annual Ascension Classic Youth Football Jamboree starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the East Ascension High School football practice field, organizers said.

The jamboree, hosted by the Ascension Cougars Youth Sports Organization, will feature games throughout the day, said Leon Blouin III, president of the sports organization.

Playing in the tournament will be the Cougars, Bayou Lafourche Raiders, Ascension Bulldogs, Galvez Tigers, Eastside Raiders and the Denham Springs Yellow Jackets.

Sisterhood plans party

The Community Sisterhood is hosting a Back-to-School Ice Cream and Movie Party on Friday at the First Pilgrim Calvary Baptist Church cafeteria, 11453 La. 73, Geismar.

The free party, set from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is for youths ages 4-12.

Cleanup on Saturday

The Donaldsonville Downtown Development, Mainstreet Donaldsonville and Community Christian Soldiers are joining forces for the “Stash the Trash” community cleanup in Donaldsonville on Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. at Mount Triumph Baptist Church, 206 W. 10th St., Donaldsonville.

The cleanup is scheduled through 11 a.m. in Donaldsonville Council District 1, DDD director Missy Jandura said.

She said Councilman Lauthaught Delaney Sr. is hosting the event, and lunch will be provided.

Fans of the St. Amant High School fall sports teams are invited to attend Monday’s “Meet the Gators” dinner in the schools’ commons area.

The St. Amant High School Athletic Booster Club meeting, set for 6 p.m., will include a presentation by fall sports teams and a jambalaya dinner, club President James E. LeBlanc said.

Parish meeting dates

Ascension Parish government shifted meeting dates this week and next month.

The regular Parish Council meeting was moved to 6 p.m. Aug. 25.

The East Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 Board of Commissioners meeting, set for Sept. 5, was moved to 6 p.m. Sept. 12. The Parish Council Finance Committee, which meets after the drainage board, was also moved to Sept. 12.

All the parish entities meet in the Parish Courthouse Annex, 828 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales.
