ST. AMANT - The driver of a pickup truck who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected and killed early Monday after his truck ran off La. 22 in Ascension Parish, State Police reported.

The eastbound 2002 Dodge pickup struck two trees and overturned in a bayou shortly before 2 a.m. about a mile west of the Amite River Diversion Canal, troopers said in a news release.

The truck rolled several times after it overturned before it partially submerged in the bayou, troopers said.

The victim is a 24-year-old man whom troopers had not identified by early Monday evening, pending notification of next of kin, troopers said.

The crash is under investigation and alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, troopers said.

The driver was the lone occupant of the truck, troopers said.
