The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and a woman in the burglary of an evacuated Belle Rose area home near the sinkhole.

Billy Rodrigue, 40, and Nicole Gros, 34, both of 118 Gerald St., Pierre Part, were booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Friday.

In late August, the Sheriff’s Office began investigating the burglary of a home on Bayou Corne Street that had been evacuated due to the sinkhole, according to Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

The owner said several air conditioners, cement lawn benches and other items had been taken, he said.

Rodrigue was booked on counts of simple burglary and theft over $500. He posted $6,000 bail and was released, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Gros was booked on counts of theft over $500, theft under $300 and forgery. Bail was set at $5,683 but she remained in jail late Monday afternoon, according to the news release.
