CONVENT —One person was killed and two others injured in a crash Wednesday morning on La. 3125 north of La. 3214 in St. James Parish, a State Police spokesman said.
The incident was the fourth fatal traffic accident in a 24-hour period that State Police investigated, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.
Jason D. Glascock, 40, of Walker, was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup north on La. 3125 around 6 a.m. when he crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided with an approaching 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Ian S. Beckman, 28, of Quitman, Miss., Sandifer said.
The front-seat passenger in Glascock’s Tundra, Amy H. Cuti, 38, of Walker, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash, Sandifer said.
Glascock, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries, Sandifer said. Beckman, who was wearing a seat belt, also suffered serious injuries in the crash, Sandifer said.
Troopers are unsure if Glascock was impaired but have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said. Glascock was booked into the St. James Parish Jail on counts of driving left of center and negligent injuring, Sandifer said.
Heavy fog also may have factored into the crash, he said.
