A 27-year-old Baton Rouge man died early Wednesday morning in a one-car crash on Interstate 10, west of La. 22 in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

The initial investigation showed that Brandon Jamal Guillory was driving a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria eastbound on I-10, in the right lane, shortly after 5 a.m. when for unknown reasons his car crossed the left-hand lane before running off the roadway to the left into the median, striking a tree head on, spokesman Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said.

Guillory, who was not wearing a seat belt, received serious injuries. He was brought by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, where he died, according to the State Police report.

State Police said impairment is not expected at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from Guillory and sent to the State Police Crime Lab.
