DONALDSONVILLE — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Donaldsonville man wanted on theft and battery on an officer in a shoplifting incident Saturday, said Maj. Kevin Hanna, of the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to a call about a man, Darrell Dunn, 38, 3098 Stewart Lane, Donaldsonville, who was seen shoplifting, found Dunn leaving the scene as a passenger in a vehicle, Hanna said.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and the driver stepped out, but as the deputy began to take Dunn into custody, Dunn moved to the driver’s seat in an attempt to escape, Hanna said in a news release.
In the struggle that followed, the deputy, who sustained minor injuries, got Dunn out of the vehicle.
However, Dunn slipped out of his jacket and ran away before the officer could handcuff him, according to the news release.
Dunn, who also resisted arrest and fled during a traffic stop several weeks ago in Ascension Parish, is wanted on counts of theft, battery on an officer, resisting arrest and damage to property, according to the news release.
He is also wanted by Baton Rouge police on simple burglary and has a criminal history of a number of felonies and charges of resisting arrest dating back to 2003, according to the news release.
Anyone with information on Dunn’s whereabouts is asked to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4634 or text 847411, or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867. Callers must contact Crime Stoppers immediately to be eligible for a cash reward.
