Melvin Cox Jr. is wanted on counts of theft and criminal trespass by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Prairieville man who ran away from deputies who tried to arrest him in connection with the theft of several three-wheeler vehicles and a four-wheeler, Maj. Kevin Hanna said.

Deputies recently received a tip that Melvin Cox Jr., 27, 41152 Merritt Evans Road, Prairieville, was involved in several thefts in the Prairieville area, Hanna said in a news release.

When they went to talk to Cox, deputies saw that there were all-terrain vehicles behind his home; they returned with a search warrant and were able to match serial numbers on the ATVs with the stolen items, the news release said.

On Wednesday, deputies searching for Cox spotted him walking on Norwood Road in Prairieville. When they tried to take him into custody, he fled on foot, the news release said.

Cox is wanted on three counts of theft and three counts of criminal trespass.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636, text 847411 or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
