BAYOU L’OURSE — A Morgan City man was arrested Thursday when a traffic stop search of the truck he was driving in Assumption Parish turned up heroin, a prescription drug, cash and a gun, Sheriff Mike Waguespack said.
During the search of the blue GMC Sierra pickup driven by Drake Geisler, 20, of 175 Andras St., Morgan City, deputies found the heroin, clonazepam — a medicine prescribed for seizures and panic attacks — and $500 in cash. Geisler also had a Ruger SR22 pistol in his waistband, Waguespack said in a news release.
Geisler, who was driving on Cecilia Street in Bayou L’Ourse at the time of the stop, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on several charges, including possession of heroin, possession of clonazepam, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a weapon and illegal carrying of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, Waguespack said.
Geisler’s bail has been set at $100,852, and he remained in custody as of late Friday afternoon.
A passenger in the truck, Steven Crawford, 23, of 514 Aristile Road, Morgan City, was arrested on outstanding warrants, the news release said.
