Deputies found synthetic marijuana, a handgun and more than $11,000 in cash in the home of a Gonzales man arrested Wednesday on drug charges, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Tony Bacala said.

Cyril Ezumezu Jr., 26, a convicted felon on previous marijuana charges who was on probation, was booked into Ascension Parish jail during the early morning hours on counts of distribution of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, two counts of illegally carrying weapons, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Undercover narcotics officers with the Sheriff’s Office purchased a quantity of marijuana from Ezumezu, then found additional marijuana and a handgun in his vehicle, according to the news release.

In Ezumezu’s home at 42421 La. 30, Lot 29, Gonzales, detectives found a second handgun, digital scales, synthetic marijuana and the cash, Bacala said.
