An argument involving a wreck that occurred about six months ago led to a shooting that injured three people Monday night, said Lt. Col Bobby Webre, of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Two men have been arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said, and booked on eight counts of attempted first-degree murder after eight people in a Chevrolet Suburban were shot at.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, officers responded to calls of shots being fired in the Bishop Woods subdivision in the Duplessis area north of Gonzales, Webre said in a news release.

Deputies found a group of people near the Suburban parked on Prairie North Drive; three of the people in the vehicle were suffering from gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital. One was released and the others are in stable condition, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators learned that, just prior to the shooting, eight people who had been riding in the Suburban had gotten into an argument on a nearby road with three other people: Emery Young Jr., Deangelo Kinchen and an unidentified person, the report says.

Young and Kinchen fired shots into the Suburban, and those in the SUV fled, driving about half a mile until one of the tires blew out after being struck by gunfire, Webre said.

Young, 20, 39034 Bayou View Road, Gonzales, was booked into Ascension Parish Jail on eight counts of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Kinchen, 18, 14406 Bishop Woods Road, surrendered on Tuesday and was booked on the same counts, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies are trying to identify the third person who was involved in the argument.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636, text 847411 or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
