GONZALES — A St. Amant mother is asking for the public’s help in finding her 14-year-old daughter who apparently ran away with a teenage friend.
Mechelle Gregoire said that when she went to pick up her daughter, Kaley Dowdy, on June 23 from a group session at the Ascension Counseling Center in Gonzales, Dowdy was not there.
Two teens told Gregoire they saw Dowdy leave the center in a white truck.
Gregoire said she believes her daughter is traveling with a teenage Hispanic boy, whom her daughter knows, and that the two may be in Texas. Gregoire said she received an email from her daughter June 26, saying that she was fine and not to look for her.
The Gonzales Police Department has been involved in the case since the night Dowdy left. Police Sgt. Steven Nethken, a detective, said the case is active and Dowdy is considered a runaway.
Gregoire said her daughter, who will be in the 10th grade in the fall at St. Amant High School, has brown eyes and brownish-black hair. Dowdy is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, her mother said.
Anyone with information on the girl’s whereabouts is asked to call the Juvenile Division of the Gonzales Police Department at (225) 647-9565.
