An Alabama man riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on La. 22 in Ascension Parish late Wednesday died in a crash after running off the side of the road. State Police said impairment is suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

John Carrizal, 43, of Decatur, Alabama, was traveling west on La. 22 near La. 937 around 11 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox, Trooper First Class Bryan Lee, a State Police spokesperson, said in a news release.

The impact caused Carrizal to lose control of the motorcycle, and he was ejected, Lee said.

Carrizal, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office, Lee said.

A toxicology sample will be taken from Carrizal for analysis, Lee said.
