Coroner identifies body found Saturday in Gonzales, says it’s likely a homicide _lowres

The Ascension Parish coroner has identified the man whose body was found Saturday on the side of a road in Gonzales as Jasper Morris, 54.

“We believe that this will be considered a homicide,” Dr. John Fraiche, Ascension Parish coroner, said in a statement released Wednesday morning.

“I am looking for answers. I’m at a loss for words,” Morris’s niece, Kristian Morris, of North Carolina, said Wednesday afternoon after the family had been notified of Jasper Morris’ death.

“I had to tell my grandma that her child was murdered but didn’t have any other answers for her,” Kristian Morris said. “I just want answers for my family. We are all lost and confused.

“We just hope whoever did this gets found and punished worse than my uncle. Nobody deserves to go through something like this.”

Records indicate Jasper Morris most recently resided in Baton Rouge.

The Coroner’s Office spokeswoman also said Wednesday that the coroner did not yet have a preliminary autopsy report containing the cause of death.

Morris’ body was found the day after Christmas and apparently had been dumped on the south side of Edenborne Parkway, a road that runs through the Edenborne development off La. 44 and south of Interstate 10.
