Two male students at the Ascension Parish Alternative School in Darrow were arrested Wednesday in separate incidents of battery on staff members at the school, Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said.

A 16-year-old student got into an argument with a male administrator at the school over a violation of school policy and kicked and punched the administrator, Wiley said in a news release.

The student was booked into the Assumption Parish Youth Detention Center in Napoleonville on a count of battery on a teacher.

In a separate incident a short while later, another student, Tyrone Pitts, 19, got into an argument over another issue of policy with a teacher, Wiley said.

The argument escalated and Pitts rushed the teacher and began to punch him, Wiley said. The teacher pressed the classroom’s emergency button to call for help, and a security officer and another school administrator had to pull the student away from the teacher, according to the news release.

Pitts was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville on a count of battery of a teacher.
