Sheriff’s detectives arrested an Ascension Parish couple early Wednesday on drug distribution and other counts after the two were found with $3,500 in methamphetamine in their vehicle while parked near a Gonzales-area hotel where they were staying.

Ascension Parish sheriff’s Lt. Col. Bobby Webre said Wednesday that David Duplessis Jr., 29, and his girlfriend, Tori Orillion, 21, were found parked illegally on a road near the hotel after deputies received a tip they were dealing large amounts of meth.

Sheriff’s detectives searched their vehicle and found a handgun, Suboxone, 34 grams of methamphetamine, drug packaging and $2,500. Detectives estimated the meth had a street value of $3,500. Detectives also found a scale and drug paraphernalia in the hotel room, Webre said in a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies refused Wednesday to disclose the name and location of the hotel except to say it was in the Gonzales area.

Duplessis, 11073 Rip Duplessis Road, Gonzales, was booked on counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine; possession with intent to distribute Suboxone; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of firearm by a convicted felon; operating a vehicle while license is suspended; stopping or parking outside business or residence districts; and illegal carrying of weapons, Webre said.

Duplessis has been arrested more than 15 times on counts of theft, burglary and illegal drugs, Webre said.

Orillion, 48181 Sam Martin Road, St. Amant, was booked on counts of drug paraphernalia prohibited acts; possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine; possession with intent to distribute Suboxone; and illegal carrying of weapons, Webre said.

Duplessis remained in Ascension Parish Prison near Donaldsonville Wednesday afternoon on $60,000 bail, while Orillion remained in jail on $35,000 bail, the sheriff’s website says.
