Food, entertainment and family fun are on tap this weekend at the annual Sunshine Festival at the South Louisiana Fairgrounds in Donaldsonville.

The fairgrounds open at 6 p.m. Friday with rides and a variety of food.

The fair runs from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The Avenue Cruisers, a Donaldsonville band, will play on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m.

The Seafood and Wild Game Cook-off is set from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and elected officials will be competing that morning in the Hot and Spicy Political Cook-off.

Festival of Friends

“Boogie on Da Bayou” is the theme for this weekend’s Festival of Friends fair to benefit St. Theresa and St. John’s Catholic schools.

The festival starts at 6 p.m. Friday with food and rides and music by Krossroadz.

The alcohol-free festival starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at St. Theresa Middle School, 212 E. New River St., Gonzales.

Gospel rap concert set

The Gonzales Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a free gospel rap concert on Saturday in the school gym.

The concert, set for 10 a.m., will include performances from Doc Kno & Prizm, BeRite, Chayil and DeVINE Prosperity.

Recycling on Saturday

Ascension Parish residents can bring their recyclables to Saturday’s monthly Recycling Road Show in Prairieville.

A recycling vehicle will be stationed in the parking lot of the Prairieville Walmart from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Newspapers; magazines; catalogs; phone books; paperback books; mail; milk and juice cartons; cardboard; aluminum; tin or bimetal cans; metal lids; and No. 1 or No. 7 plastic containers can be dropped off.

FFA Alumni fundraiser

The St. Amant High School Future Farmers of America Alumni group is hosting its annual chicken dinner plate sale Oct. 7, FFA adviser Mandy Savoy DeLaune said.

Proceeds from the sale will help to pay the expenses of FFA members traveling to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

Each $6 plate will include a barbecued chicken leg quarter, rice dressing, salad, baked beans, bread and dessert. All plates must be pre-ordered by Wednesday.

Friday is the last day to register a booth for the Oct. 8-9 River Region Art Association’s Awesome Art on the Bayou Festival.

The festival will be held each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in and around the Gonzales Jambalaya Park and City Hall.
