GONZALES — Ascension Parish Assessor Renee Mire Michel wants to keep information as accurate and accessible as possible at the Assessor’s Office, she said in a July 21 news release announcing her intention to run for re-election.
Michel said she has more than 30 years’ experience at the Assessor’s Office, and has served as assessor since 2003.
In the last 8 years, Michel said she has dealt with rapid growth in the parish by adding state-of-the-art software systems, implementing mass appraisal techniques and put assessment information online.
Michel said she has increased the number of certified deputies at both offices to improve accuracy and access.
“My goal as your assessor is to assess property in the fairest manner so that no property owner pays more than their fair share of the tax burden. I’ll continue to work for complete transparency and fairness in all assessments by executing my job impartially and keeping politics out of the Assessor’s Office,” Michel said.
Michel is a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gonzales, the Gonzales Rotary, Chamber of Commerce in Ascension and Donaldsonville, International Association of Assessing Officers and serves as President of the Ascension Community Theatre.
She is married to Johnny Michel and they have a son, Nate, daughter-in-law Robin Bourgeois Michel, and one grandchild, Grant.
