Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man suspected of breaking into vehicles in the Geismar area, armed with what, in surveillance video, appears to be a shotgun.

Several residents in Cypress Ridge subdivision and other nearby neighborhoods in Geismar reported the vehicle break-ins over Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, an Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office news release says.

Surveillance video shows the man, armed with a weapon, pulling on the door handles of several vehicles.

From one of them, he took a Smith and Wesson M4 high-powered rifle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators have learned there were similar burglaries in East Baton Rouge Parish last month in a subdivision that borders Ascension Parish.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636, text 847411 or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
