Brothers in a speeding Corvette died early Sunday when the driver lost control, causing the car to go into a spin and strike several trees, ejecting the unrestrained men.
Todd Ponville, 48, Pierre Part, and his brother, Troy, 49, Napoleonville, died at the scene of the wreck on La. 70 in Assumption Parish, State Police said in a news release.
“Due to the circumstances, it is unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash,” Trooper 1st Class Evan Harrell said in the release.
About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette was headed west on La. 70 near box number 4030 in Pierre Part. The car was speeding as it entered a right-hand curve and careened out of control.
As the Corvette sped through the curve, it crossed the centerline and began turning counter-clockwise.
The car veered off the right side of the road and smashed into several trees, throwing the two men, who were not wearing seat belts.
The Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced them dead at the scene.
Impairment is suspected, Harrell said in the news release. Toxicology tests are pending.
