NAPOLEONVILLE - An Assumption Parish grand jury indicted a Belle Rose couple on first-degree murder and aggravated burglary charges in the death of an 84-year-old woman, prosecutors said.

Anna Mae Hidalgo was hit on the head with a blunt-force object, strangled and dumped in the Rocky Canal in a remote part of Iberville Parish on March 13, prosecutors with the 23rd Judicial District said in a news release.

Dean Hue, 32, and Raven Blanchard Hue, 23, both of 7509 La. 1 South, Donaldsonville, lived next door to Hidalgo. Hue lived with his adoptive mother, who is Hidalgo?s niece.

Deputies arrested Hue and Blanchard on March 16 and booked them with first-degree murder. Deputies also arrested and booked with first-degree murder a 12-year-old boy identified by relatives as Dean Hue Jr.

Hue Sr. and Blanchard were married and divorced but Blanchard had been living with Hue?s mother and the boy when the slaying occurred, family members have said.

The grand jury handed down the indictments Monday, prosecutors said.

A grand jury proceeding is a formal charging process and not a determination of guilt or innocence.

Arraignment is set for June 20, prosecutors said, when Hue and Blanchard will be asked to give a judge an initial statement of their guilt or innocence.
