A 66-year-old man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west in Gonzales, police said.

Floyd Cox, of Baton Rouge, was driving just west of the La. 30 exit about 5:15 a.m. when a car headed in the same direction struck his SUV, said Charlotte Guedry, a spokeswoman for the Gonzales Police Department.

Cox’s SUV was thrown into a grassy area on Boudreaux Road, adjacent to the interstate. Cox, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, Guedry said.

The other driver, John Sanchez, 27, said he was speeding on his way to work. Sanchez, 11476 Benton Frederic Road, St. Amant, was arrested on counts of reckless operation and driving on a suspended license. There may be additional charges, Guedry said.
