GONZALES — A Gonzales man died when the car he was riding in was involved in a crash with another vehicle on La. 74 at KC Road in Ascension Parish shortly before 1:45 p.m. Saturday, a State Police spokesman said.
Patrick G. Breaux, 22, was a front seat passenger in a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Sara B. Andrews, 22, of Baton Rouge, Trooper 1st Class Jared L. Sandifer said.
Sandifer said Andrews was headed southbound on KC Road and stopped for a stop sign at La. 74. As Andrews proceeded through the intersection, Sandifer said, her vehicle was struck by a 2008 Infiniti FX 35 driven by Robert Deaton, 35, of Geismar, that was traveling west on La. 74.
Breaux sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash despite the fact that he was wearing his seat belt. Both Andrews and Deaton were properly restrained and suffered only minor to moderate injuries, Sandifer said.
Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver; however, toxicology samples were taken from both and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.
