Patrice Pujol, superintendent of the Ascension Parish School System, was named 2015 Superintendent of the Year on Monday by two state educational groups.
The Louisiana Association of School Executives and the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents, for which she serves as immediate past president, selected Pujol for the honor.
The Ascension Parish school district, which has 28 schools and more than 21,000 students, recently received an A rating from the state Department of Education for the third year in a row and was ranked No. 4 overall among public school districts in the state.
Pujol has worked in education in the parish for 37 years as a teacher, principal, director of secondary schools, director of school improvement, assistant superintendent and superintendent, according to the School Board.
In recent years, the number of A schools in the district has grown from 12 to 16, and Pujol has put into place a “Turnaround Zone” program, concentrating resources at the district’s lowest-performing school, according to the School Board.
