Selfie leads to arrest in Gonzales theft case _lowres

A man already in jail on a count of attempted first-degree murder was booked Tuesday on felony theft after detectives found a selfie on social media of the man — wearing the same distinctive outfit he wore during the theft, said Sgt. Steven Nethken, with the Gonzales Police Department.

After surveillance camera photos appeared in local media, as police searched for the man videotaped taking someone’s money clip with $1,200 from the counter of a Gonzales convenience store on Dec. 2, police received tips about the robber, Nethken said in a news release.

A search of social media sites turned up the selfie of Rashad Bridges, 29, 5142 Galaxy Blvd., Darrow, wearing the same black-and-white striped shirt and black knit cap he was wearing when he was videotaped taking the money clip from the Popingo store on South Burnside Avenue, Nethken said.

Bridges, meanwhile, was already in the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville by Tuesday, having been booked on Dec. 21 on an attempted murder count. He’s accused of breaking into a man’s home and firing a gun at him, but the gun misfired, said Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tony Bacala.
