The driver of a pickup truck who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected and killed Monday morning after the truck ran off the road, hit two trees and overturned in a bayou off La. 22 in Ascension Parish, Lt. Doug Cain said.
The fatal single vehicle crash occurred around 2 a.m., one mile west of the Diversion Canal, Cain said.
The victim was a 24-year-old man driving a 2002 Dodge pickup east on La. 22, according to a State Police news release.
The driver of the truck ran off the road to the left after trying to negotiate a right hand curve in the road. The truck rolled several times after it overturned before it partially submerged in the bayou, the release says.
Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, Cain said.
The driver was the lone occupant of the truck, Cain said.
The crash is under investigation.
