PRAIRIEVILLE — All Ascension Parish roads were reopened Thursday morning as floodwaters on the Amite River continued to recede, parish officials said.
Assistant Department of Public Works Director Johnny Richardson said in a statement that crews removed barricades at Summerfield South Road and Airport Drive, the last two locations where backwater flooding pushed water on the roadways.
The roads are near the Amite in the far northeastern corner of the parish.
Other roads near the Amite and Bayou Manchac were reopened Wednesday afternoon, parish officials have said.
Six roads in all were closed in northern Ascension after heavy rainfall in the Amite River Basin over the weekend and earlier this week.
