DONALDSONVILLE — Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies have arrested two 15-year-olds after they admitted to stealing a booksack full of cellphones owned by high school football players visiting Donaldsonville for a game Friday night.
The sack of 15 cellphones had been taken from a Centerville High School bus at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium on Clay Street in Donaldsonville Friday, sheriff’s deputies said in a news release Thursday.
Centerville High was playing Ascension Catholic High School that night.
Sheriff’s detectives learned the two Donaldsonville youths were trying to sell the cellphones in the city, sheriff’s Maj. Kevin Hanna said in a news release Thursday.
Once detectives questioned the teens, they admitted to stealing the booksack.
One of the teens also turned over the sack, which still had five cellphones in it, Hanna said.
The other teen told deputies that the teen destroyed the other phones, Hanna said.
Deputies would not say Thursday where the teens go to school or provide their gender.
The teens were arrested Tuesday on counts of simple burglary and felony theft of more than $5,000.
They were booked into the Assumption Parish juvenile detention center in Napoleonville, pending a 72-hour court hearing scheduled this week, Hanna said.
