A Gonzales man was booked Thursday on a count of heroin possession, after being found passed out in his vehicle with drug paraphernalia next to him, Chief Deputy Tony Bacala with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, said.

Deputies responding to a call at Clark’s Top Fuel on Airline Highway found Garrett Haydell, 34, passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot, with a syringe on the passenger seat, Bacala said in a news release. Narcotics agents were called to the scene and seized the syringe and a spoon with heroin in it.

Haydell, of 221 E. Weber St., Apt. 4, was taken to an area hospital, then arrested upon his release from the hospital, the release says.

Haydell was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on counts of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000.
