GONZALES — A former employee of Airgas Inc. in Geismar was arrested this week, accused of running up nearly $5,000 in personal charges on a company fuel card, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies said.
Joseph Albert, 44, 17228 La. 930, Prairieville, was terminated July 24 from Airgas, and two weeks later, the company reported to the Sheriff’s Office that a company credit card had been used without authorization, Sheriff’s Office Maj. Kevin Hanna said in a news release Friday.
Detectives learned that Albert had used the company fuel card 12 times in Ascension Parish for purchases totaling $4,980 and had also used the card in surrounding parishes, Hanna said.
Albert was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Ascension Parish Prison near Donaldsonville on 12 felony counts of unauthorized use of an access card. He was released on a $30,000 bail, Hanna said.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges may follow, Hanna said.
