NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — Two Louisiana residents, including a 27-year-old woman from Gonzales, died Sunday in a one-car accident in Mississippi.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the wreck on U.S. Highway 61 South of Natchez at 12:24 p.m. Sunday.

Adams County Coroner James Lee told The Natchez Democrat the driver, 34-year-old Mika Peoples, of Calhoun, La., was ejected from the vehicle, which ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Lee said a passenger, Shana Leblanc of Gonzales, was thrown into the back seat during the crash.

Lee said Peoples was pronounced dead at the scene, and Leblanc was later pronounced dead at the Merit Health Natchez emergency room.

The crash remains under investigation
