Tickets are on sale for the July 9 Dancing for a Cause fundraiser to benefit Community Opportunities of East Ascension - the ARC of East Ascension.
The third annual event, which features nine local community businessmen and women paired with area dancers, will be held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. Singer Irma Thomas is set to perform, said event Chairwoman Sharon Morris.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Gonzales Weekly Citizen, COEA and LeBlanc’s Food Stores.

Police group tourney set
The Gonzales Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 16 is hosting its second golf tournament on June 16 at the Lakes at Pelican Point golf course.
The four-man scramble tournament costs $300 per team or $75 a person.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support community activities including the Christmas for Kids program, Easter Seals, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Gulf Coast Motorcycle Skills competition.

Here comes the rodeo
It’s rodeo time in south Louisiana.
Two Ascension Parish teens have qualified for a national rodeo competition and others are ready for the Louisiana High School Rodeo Finals that start 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
Cody Martinez and Elise Guillory qualified to compete in the annual National Junior High Rodeo Finals on June 26 to July 2 in Gallup, N.M.
The two won the chance to compete thanks to their efforts at the recent Louisiana Junior High School Rodeo Finals held in Gonzales.
The high school competition features cutting, bareback riding, saddle bronc, barrel racing, tie down roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, pole bending and bull riding events.

CASA training planned
Child Advocacy Services’ Ascension Parish Court Appointed Special Advocates program is looking for volunteers to be the voice for children in the community who have been victims of abuse or neglect, according to a news release from the agency.
CASA training for Ascension Parish volunteers will begin at 6 p.m. on July 11 at the Child Advocacy Services office, 1026 E. Worthey Road, Suite C, Gonzales.

Artist reception Sunday
River Region Art Association June Artist of the Month Monica Landry will be honored during a 2 p.m. reception Sunday at the association’s Gonzales Art Center.
Landry’s paintings and jewelry are on display throughout the month at the Art Center in Gonzales and at the RRAA Gallery at Houmas House Plantation and Gardens’ gift shop.
