Starting Monday, the state Department of Environmental Quality will be conducting a series of dye studies on Bayou Lafourche in Ascension, Assumption and Lafourche parishes.

The studies will involve placing a bright red, nontoxic dye into the water to get information on flow patterns in the bayou and how that flow is influenced by different pump stations.

The information will be used to draft better procedures to maintain water quality during natural disasters such as flooding or hurricanes, according to a DEQ press release.
