BELLE ROSE — Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputies are looking for a Morgan City man wanted on a terrorizing count Monday after an incident at his former workplace led to fears that he took a gun to the Belle Rose business.
Joseph Robertson, 48, 825 Railroad Ave., Morgan City, had quit his job at Shelby Gaudet Contractors in Belle Rose a few days earlier and showed up 6:45 a.m. Friday asking to speak with a supervisor, Sheriff Mike Waguespack said in a statement Monday.
Waguespack said Robertson reportedly told the supervisor, “I got something for you to come see.”
The supervisor walked to Robertson’s vehicle, where he asked a woman inside if the supervisor “is him,” Waguespack said.
“Hold on, I got something for you,” Robertson supposedly then told the supervisor.
Robertson then reached to the floorboard, and the supervisor, fearing Robertson was reaching for a gun, ran to the business shop, yelling, “I think he’s got a gun.”
Waguespack said Monday that deputies do not know whether Robertson actually had a gun in the vehicle.
Waguespack said Robertson’s attorney promised that Robertson would appear for an interview with investigators Friday, but Robertson did not show up and deputies got a warrant for his arrest.
Waguespack said word late Monday afternoon was that Robertson may have gone to work offshore and deputies were still searching for his whereabouts.
Sheriff’s Detective Darren Crochet is the lead investigator. Anyone with information should call the Criminal Investigative Division at (985) 526-1627 or Communications Division at (985) 369-2912.
