Ascension Parish Schools Superintendent Patrice Pujol is one of four finalists in the U.S. for the 2015 National Superintendent of the Year award to be presented in February by the School Superintendents Association.
In her 38 years in education, Pujol has served as a teacher, principal, director of secondary schools, director of school improvement and assistant superintendent before being named superintendent of the Ascension Parish school district in 2010.
As superintendent, she’s put into place an instructional coach program for teachers, benchmark assessments for students and a leadership assessment and development program for teachers, according to a news release from the School Superintendents Association, which is part of the American Association of School Administrators.
The other finalists for the national honor are from Tampa, Florida; Athens, Georgia; and Arlington, Virginia.
A $10,000 college scholarship will be presented to a student in the high school from which the person named 2015 National Superintendent of the Year graduated or the school now serving the same area.
