A citizen of Mexico was sentenced to nearly four years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty earlier this year to illegally returning to the United States after being deported, federal prosecutors in New Orleans said.

Gilberto Ramos-Marrufo, 32, was found in Lafourche Parish on Oct. 26, 2010, after he had been deported in February 2005, a federal indictment says.

In April 2003, he was convicted in an Illinois state court of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, making him eligible for a sentencing enhancement on the illegal entry count in Lafourche, the indictment says.

U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier gave Ramos-Marrufo three years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence of three years and 10 months, prosecutors said in a news release.
