Law enforcement officers and others saluted fallen Shreveport police Officer Thomas LaValley as his body passed through the Baton Rouge area Saturday for funeral services and burial in Ascension Parish. LaValley, 29, was shot multiple times while answering a call about a suspicious person at a home in Shreveport’s Queensborough neighborhood Wednesday night.
A native of St. Amant, LaValley worked as a television news photographer for more than three years before he joined the police force. He attended St. Amant High School and graduated from Northwestern State University.
Visitation for LaValley will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales. The rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday.
After visitation, a procession will leave the funeral home about 10:30 a.m. Monday for the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 44450 La. 429, St. Amant. Interment at the church cemetery will immediately follow the Mass.
