LABADIEVILLE — An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a man accused of robbing a 72-year-old cab driver at knifepoint, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said.

Deputies arrested Devin Daigle, 22, 108 Michelle St., Labadieville, on counts of armed robbery and perpetration of a crime against a person older than 65.

Daigle already was being held in the parish detention center on separate drug charges, the sheriff said.

Deputies said Daigle called the cab around 6 a.m. Monday for a ride from the St. John community to Labadieville.

When the cab driver picked him up, Daigle directed her to his home where he went inside under the pretense of getting some money to pay for the ride, deputies said.

Daigle returned and asked to be driven to an automated teller machine to get money for the cab fare, deputies said.

On the way to the ATM, Daigle brandished a knife, took the cab driver’s cash and fled, deputes said.
