Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested six LaPlace residents on counts of prescription fraud, Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said Friday.
The investigation began after several pharmacies were asked to fill suspicious prescriptions for commonly abused drugs such as Oxycodone, Roxicodone, Lortab, Xanax and Soma, Bacala said.
A three-month investigation led deputies to determine the prescriptions had been written on stolen or counterfeit prescription pads, he said.
Three suspects were booked with one count each of obtaining a controlled, dangerous substance by fraud: Timothy Michael Berteau, 24, 424 Belmont Drive; Christopher Edward Maher, 21, 445 Greenwood Drive; and Christopher Carlo Cottone, 25, 2244 E. Canterbury Drive.
Bacala said Drake Evan Decker, 21, 768 Madewood Drive, was booked with obtaining prescription drugs by fraud and attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud.
Matthew James Bazile, 26, 526 Oak Allee Drive; and Bradley Mark Wandrei, 22, 2164 Pebble Beach Drive, were booked on one count each of attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, Bacala said.
All six remained in the Ascension Parish Jail Friday night in lieu of $10,000 bail each, Bacala said.
