A northbound turn lane from La. 73 to La. 42 in Ascension Parish will be closed for three weeks beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, parish government officials said Monday.

The La. 42/La. 73 intersection is one of Ascension’s busier intersections and a crossroads of morning and evening rush-hour traffic. The turn lane will be closed 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through May 13, parish officials said in a news release.

But right turns will still be allowed at the intersection onto east La. 42 while workers install new sewer pipe at the intersection, parish officials said.

Lester Kenyon, parish government spokesman, said the sewer line is part of an expansion of the Oak Grove Primary School sewage treatment plant. The parish is taking over the plant to help fulfill state requirements to install underground sewer service along La. 42 for a state Department of Transportation and Development widening project of the highway.

Parish senior project manager Carl Ladmirault said La. 42 eastbound also may be reached from Airline Highway or La. 73 southbound.
