GONZALES - A Prairieville man died in a New Orleans hospital Sunday from injuries he received Saturday night when his pickup collided with a locomotive at a La. 70 grade crossing, State Police spokesman Russell Graham said Tuesday.
Graham said that an investigation determined that Jeremy Brassett, 31, passed three vehicles that had stopped for the train, drove around the activated crossing gates and was attempting to cross the tracks when the train struck his 2007 Chevrolet pickup.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. Saturday. Acadian Ambulance transported Brassett to the hospital in New Orleans, Graham said.
Brassett died the next day of his injuries, he said.
State Police do not know whether impairment was a factor in the crash, a news release from the agency said.
A blood sample has been submitted to the crime lab for analysis.
